Free monthly meetings, every 2nd Thursday of the month are currently held at 10AM at Taraval Police Station Community Room, 2345 24th Avenue. The general format of the meetings consists of a Guest Speaker, announcements of special interest to the community at large and/or senior citizen oriented, group practice of Qigong exercises, distribution of raffle prizes & social time with light refreshments. Pamphlets emphasizing nutrition, exercise, health or safety measures are free & available. Announcements of upcoming meetings are advertised in local newsletters, social media, distribution of fliers & personal messages.
Topics for the meetings have recently included; “Brain Health:Reducing the Risks” (Aug. 2019); “Preventing Injuries @ Home & On The Street:” (July, 2019) and “Preparing For the Next Disaster” (June, 2019). Field trips by the group, utilizing the SFMTA Van Gogh Paratransit Service occur in addition to the meetings. These are quarterly planned and to date have included a trip to the Presidio for the viewing of “Then They Came For Me” a documentary & photo exhibit of the internment of Japanese American citizens during WWII. An upcoming field trip is planned for Ghiardelli Square in October. Future plans for Senior Power include expansion of the exercise program & offering bilingual (English/Cantonese) communication at meetings & events.
