Senior Power: The Property Tax meeting

With a record turnout of 42, attendees of Senior Power met at Taraval Police Station on November 14, 2019.  The timely draw for a “Money out/Money In” themed program revolved around 2 guest speakers:  first up, Nicole Agbayani, Office of the Assessor-Recorder to share Property Tax Savings for Seniors, followed by Bret Putnam from the LA Regional Census Center who discussed the 2020 Census.

Ms Agbayani’s talk inspired so much audience participation as she explained the background, history & use of S.F. property tax code/funds, the implications of Prop 13 & Prop 58,  that by popular demand she will return early next year for a follow up.  Mr. Putnam reviewed why the census matters & the impact of the results on legislative & funding especially  on Medicare & programs for Seniors, as well the personal financial benefits in becoming a Census Taker with great pay, flexible hours & paid training.

Important announcements included a follow up of the October Field Trip, change in venue for the December meeting (Art show & Lecture by local gallerist Anne Herbst @ Far Out Gallery on Taraval) & City College Sunset free college classes for the Spring 2020 Semester, including one for Older Adults: Mind-Body Health.
